Data Auditing, Analysis and Electronic Survey Authoring Trainings
2017-2018

Ravens Consulting has conducted a number of ICT and Statistical trainings to different audiences. Of note, Ravens Consulting has conducted electronic surveys programming and data analyses trainings. Ravens Consulting conducted a three days training in June 2017 to professionals in Dodoma region. The training covered authorship skills and principles, electronic survey data collection and hosting of Surveys. In 2018, Ravens Consulting conducted trainings in both quantitative and qualitative data analyses to different stakeholders. The trainings involved the use of different statistical software using SPSS, SAS and Stata for quantitative data and NVivo for qualitative data.

ICT Outsourcing Service to USAID Tanzania

Ravens Consulting is implementing an ICT outsourcing service to Tanzania Health Supply Chain Summit, a program of USAID Tanzania. In this assignment, Ravens Consulting offers website hosting service and website management service.

Electronic Survey Authoring for the Agricultural and Food-System Resilience: Increasing Capacity and Advising Policy (AFRICAP) Baseline Survey Project by FANRPAN

Ravens Consulting was contracted by FANRPAN South Africa for the electronic authoring and data management for the AFRICAP project. The project was implemented in four countries namely Malawi, Tanzania, South Africa and Zambia. The AFRICAP project aims to identify and implement evidence-based policy pathways to facilitate the development of sustainable, productive, climate smart agricultural systems to meet food security and economic development needs.

Electronic Survey Programming, Data Management and Analysis for Sokoine University of Agriculture ATONU Project

Ravens Consulting was sub-contracted by Sokoine University of Agriculture in electronic authoring of the ATONU survey, monitoring of data collection including server setting up, management and overseeing quality of data collection and analysis. ATONU stands for Agriculture to Nutrition. It is an African initiative focusing on how agriculture can deliver positive nutrition outcomes to smallholder farm families through the implementation of robust and evidence-based nutrition-sensitive interventions. ATONU was implemented in three countries, namely Ethiopia, Nigeria and Tanzania.

The data analysis involved computation of the outcome variables of interest (wealth index, dietary diversities of the households, women and children, women empowerment indicators, nutritional indicators, food security, food shortages, WASH practices, vegetable consumption and general nutrition knowledge). In addition, to compare the rate of changes from baseline to endline across treatment arms, Difference in Difference (D-I-D) analysis was carried out. The analysis involved both generalized estimating equation and linear mixed models for binary and continuous outcomes respectively. The models accounted for the study design structure (cluster randomization of villages) and the repeated measures of the outcome variables, where fixed effects involved variables of zones, improved chicken ownership and treatment arms while village was treated as a random effect and was included in statistical models as a random intercept. The analysis was performed using Statistical Analysis System (SAS) software version 9.4.

Oxfam Governance and Accountability Project
2017

Ravens Consulting conducted a baseline survey in five regions in Tanzania namely Arusha, Geita, Kigoma, Mtwara and Lindi for a two-year project named ‘Enabling Improved Governance and Accountability in Tanzania through Digital Technology’ by Oxfam in Tanzania in collaboration with Oxfam Solidarite (Belgium). Under this assignment Ravens Consulting roles were to develop and translate all data collection tools both qualitative and quantitative, identify valid comparison groups, sampling, vetting and training field workers and lead data collection activities in the field using SurveyCTO electronic data collection technology.

ICT Outsourcing Service to Nutritional International Tanzania

Ravens Consulting is implementing an ICT outsourcing service to Nutritional International, Dodoma, Tanzania. In this assignment, Ravens Consulting works to ensure proper usage and steward of desktops, laptops, servers, printers, network devices, software and any other IT related equipment according to NI policies. Implementation of upgrades, updates as designed by NI IT MSP and staff. Ensure routine maintenance both corrective and preventive. Provide troubleshooting of malfunctioning software and hardware. Provide training pertaining to software and hardware usage to NI staff.

Electronic Survey Authoring and Data Management for the NCD HIV Project
2020

Ravens Consulting executed a consultancy on electronic survey authoring in July 2020 for the project named Cardiovascular Risk Factors, Depression and Quality of Life in Patients Receiving Antiretroviral Therapy in Rural Tanzania which was implemented by Health for a Prosperous Nation (HPON) organization. The project was implemented in Kahama district hospital and Shinyanga region referral hospital where Ravens Consulting programmed the data collection tool, trained research assistants and conducted data management activities. The HPON Project aimed at identifying cardiovascular risk factors, depression and quality of life in patients receiving antiretroviral therapy in rural Tanzania. At the end of the project, Ravens Consulting successfully delivered an electronic data collection tool and managed the data collection in all areas involved in the project.

To provide technical support in the Harnessing longitudinal data and digital technologies to improve adolescent health across sub-Saharan Africa project in Tanga
AAPH – January – June 2023

Ravens Consulting is currently conducting a quantitative data analysis activity for the “Harnessing longitudinal data and digital technologies to improve adolescent health across sub-Saharan Africa” project in Tanga. This project was conducted by African Academy for Public Health (AAPH) in collaboration with the University of Dodoma, and Tanga City Council.

The consultancy includes providing technical support during endline field data collection, advise team while on the field and utilize scientific analytical methods to analyze school health surveyed quantitative data and provide assistance during report writing. Specifically, we have overseen the endline data collection, developed detailed analytical and analysis plans, conducted the quantitative analyses, and are currently writing a report covering the domains of nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, mental health, physical health, health services utilization and substance use. Thereafter, we will work with the study team to prepare dissemination materials, and attend dissemination meetings.

Tanzania Tomato Wholesalers - Survey Programming and Hosting
Aspires, November 2022 – March 2023

Ravens Consulting was involved in developing a high-quality Computer Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI) questionnaire for the Tanzania Tomato Wholesale survey conducted in January to March 2023. This survey was part of the activities for Tomato Survey study conducted by ASPIRES Tanzania team in collaboration with Michigan State University.

Specifically, we designed and programed the survey using Open Data Kit (ODK) technology as per sections including taking care of the logical flow between questions observing the skipping patterns, and offered hosting for the data collected.

Evaluation and Performance Improvement of Learning Management System (Moodle) for Morogoro Vocational Teacher Training College Learning Management System

Morogoro Vocational Teacher Training College (MVTTC) and Skills for Employment Tanzania (SET)

Ravens Consulting reviewed the performance of Morogoro Vocational Teacher Training College (MVTTC) Learning Management System (Moodle) in terms of its effectiveness, accessibility, and interactivity to the learning process in two enrolled batches with the objective of improving the performance to deliver a better user experience.

The review conducted was part of the modular teacher training program jointly conducted by MVTTC and SET with funding support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Tanzania. The project aimed at upgrading Folk Development Colleges (FDC) teachers during the SET phase one.

Specifically, Ravens Consulting reviewed the MVTTC LMS functionalities, users’ satisfaction on MVTTC LMS, MVTTC LMS System design approach implemented, performed user acceptance test and improved MVTTC LMS based on functionality review and contextual challenges observed.
